News: Selena Gomez leads ALMA award nominations

Disney star Selena Gomez is leading the list of celebrities who have been nominated for an ALMA award. Gomez, Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez are among the top nominees announced for the 2011 ALMA Awards, which will be presented in Santa Monica, California, in honour of entertainers who promote a positive image of Hispanic culture. The trio were nominated, along with Naya Rivera and Shakira, for favourite female music artist. Gomez was also nominated for favourite TV actress for Wizards of Waverly Place, while Aguilera was nominated for reality show The Voice and Lopez for the smash hit American Idol. Aguilera also received a nod for favourite comedy/musical movie actress for Burlesque, while Gomez was nominated in the same category for Monte Carlo. The awards, presented by the National Council of La Raza, will be bestowed during a September 10 ceremony at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. George Lopez and Eva Longoria will co-host the event, which will be taped and broadcast in the US on September 16.

A scantily clad Lady Gaga was greeted by scores of screaming fans as she left a swanky Hollywood hotel to tape an American late night chat show. The Born This Way singer wore a skin tight black dress cut to the navel and sky high stiletto boots as she strutted out of the Chateau Marmont (Thurs) after giving out dozens of 'love letters' to patient 'little monster' fans who had been waiting for a glimpse of their idol since 7am. Gaga, 25, also had her assistants send out McDonalds and bottled water to fans, police and waiting photographers before she finally emerged about 5pm. With her trademark platinum locks and scarlet red lipstick the pop icon waved to waiting fans and was engulfed by excited 'monsters' — the nickname she gives her followers — before security whisked her away to film the Jimmy Kimmel show in a waiting black Escalade. The 'love letter' to fans arrived with the McDonalds and water and read, on Chateau Marmont headed paper: "Dear Little Monsters, thank you for singing to me all day and night. "I love you with all my heart. You make everyday worth living. "Kisses to the cops for keeping you safe. "Love, Lady Gaga."
